Brittney Ferguson Interiors Transforms An Ordinary Beaumont Home Into a Bold Family (and Pet) Friendly Space

IIf interior design and home refreshment are high on your list for 2023, 7725 Devonshire in the West End of Beaumont, Texas is the perfect place to get inspired. Begun nearly two years ago, the home was built by WT Little Construction and designed by Brittney Ferguson Interiors.

While Beaumont homes tend to be traditional, Ferguson’s client loved playing with colours, prints and textures, resulting in a home that is warm, inviting and swooning.

“7725 Devonshire is full of fun colors, patterns and textures,” says Ferguson. “Our clients were done with white and gray interiors and wanted bold but tasteful pops of color. With two young children, a lab and a bulldog, we knew the choices had to be family and pet friendly.”

Neutral out, bold in. According to Ferguson, many homes in the area are following the gray and white farmhouse trend. However, her clients wanted to mix warmth and modern elements with classic pieces.

say no more Ferguson sourced rich fabrics from Houston Schumacher’s showroom for the dining room, living room, entryway and breakfast areas. She added custom sideboards from West University’s Oyster Creek Collections and crowned the spaces with entrance art by MAI Houston and hand-painted dining room panels by Gracie Studio in NYC.

Only in second place clear, Custom was the name of the game when it came to this West End oasis. With Texas nods, Ferguson sourced a custom high gloss burl dining table from Mirak Furniture of Houston (perfect for the client’s large family and love of entertaining) and a custom sofa console from Scout Designs of Dallas.

Custom can get overwhelming – but not when you’re working with Ferguson.

“We didn’t want to overwhelm our customers with too many choices,” says Ferguson. “We brought two to three options with us for every decision.”

Ferguson quickly turned her attention to the fabrics of the house. She found the focal point of the dining room in its curtains of Lotus Garden Schumacher fabric and covered the living room chairs with Sunbrella Schumacher fabric.

As well as the fabrics, 7725 Devonshire saw major changes in lighting. Ferguson swapped out construction quality fixtures for fixtures from Arteriors and Circa Lighting, and the curtains/woven shades softened the large windows – even the accent lighting from the table and floor lamps made a dramatic difference.

And yet, pretty as it is, a home is only as good as its flow, and Ferguson kept the flow of the open floor plan high on her list of priorities.

“We started by designing a furniture layout for each room,” says Ferguson. “Then we chose our anchor pieces like rugs, couch and swivel chairs. We kept these performance fabrics fairly neutral but used the cushions and accessories to add pops of colour. And when the family gets tired of them, they can be easily swapped out.
