July 9, 1935 – December 14, 2022
It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the peaceful death of our mother.
Predeceased by parents Ferdinand and Wanda Schultz, sisters Audrey Madden and Fern Pelton, husband Stephen R. Hobson (Dick), firstborn grandson Ricky Hobson (aged 20 months), and youngest grandson Adam Hobson (aged 37).
Survived by sons Bruce (Donna), Steve (Arlene), Ferdy (Eilene [ET]) and daughter Maureen (Jim), grandchildren Mike Hobson (Alanna), Amy Webb (Craig), Kirsty Parent (Chris), Erin Mitchell, and great-grandchildren Taleya, Tanner, Tynan, and Taylin.
Mom was born in Edmonton but grew up and attended school in Wildwood, AB. In her early teens the family moved to Clearwater BC where she met and married our father, Dick. Many happy years were spent in Clearwater before work restrictions forced a move to Valemount. From Valemount they returned briefly to Clearwater, then to Nanaimo and finally to Ladysmith. The island was a wonderful place to live, work, explore and retreat to, but Clearwater held a special place in Mom’s heart. Together with the family we will scatter some of their ashes there.
Family best describes mom and we grew up with a big one; complemented by a large extended family of friends wherever we lived. She was a fantastic cook and hosted many family gatherings over the years. It was the right place. Many of these gatherings included sing-alongs, with Mom playing the piano or guitar. Her other favorite things to do were gardening, camping, boating, singing in a local choir, following all the events that we kids and grandkids were involved in, her little dog Rusty, and did I mention GRANDKIDS.
