Mackenzie Top Peak Ski Community Contest Launches 2023 Version

Last year, the Kimberley Alpine Resort’s Alpine Team scooped a $50,000 prize from the Mackenzie Investments Top Peak Award. The Kimberley Alpine Team planned to use the prize money to expand access to future ski programs and upgrade their training equipment.
Last year was a particularly difficult year for the Kimberley team as the arson that destroyed the main lift prompted them to dig deep and scale the hill for training.
It was perhaps these difficult circumstances that caused voters to really flock to Kimberley and give them enough votes to draw level with Adanac Ski Hill in Sudbury, Ontario in the Top Peak contest.
Fernie Alpine Resort placed fourth in the competition, bringing two resorts in East Kootenay into the national top five.
The winning teams were determined in part by total points accumulated throughout the season, based on votes collected, participation in weekly challenges and social media posts, and in part by a panel of experts, Mackenzie and the ski community represents.
Now, Mackenzie Investments has announced the return of Top Peak for 2023 and is looking for a special ski community in Canada to live up to their mantra, “Be investment. Up and down the hill.”
Through a series of fun and engaging social media challenges, Canadian ski communities are encouraged to gather around their ski slopes and show their spirit for the sport for a chance to be crowned Canada’s Most Invested Ski Community.
All Canadian ski communities are encouraged to support their local hills and ski teams.
For the first time, Canadians have the opportunity to directly vote for the top three teams. The winning team will receive $100,000 towards a local community investment project – double the amount received in the previous two years – and the bragging rights that come with earning the coveted Top Peak Crown. Additionally, the 2023 edition of Top Peak now features a $20,000 second place prize, a $10,000 third place prize, and $2,500 for each finalist in fourth through tenth place for local community-based initiatives.
How to participate in the Mackenzie Top Peak:
1. Register: Registration is now open. Skiers are encouraged to visit the Top Peak website to register a community/mountain team and identify a local purpose for the prize money. This could range from better facilities and access to expanded programs and classes. Full contest rules and regulations are available on the Top Peak website.
2. Nomination & Rally: By March 8th, each registered hill will have one or more teams working together to earn points through social media challenges. Photos and videos can be shared by their team, who actively support or give back to their community. All activities must be conducted safely and in accordance with local restrictions and government mandated protocols.
3. Selected Finalists: The top ten teams will be announced on March 11th. From March 11th to March 22nd, Canadians will have the opportunity to vote for the top three. On March 25th, the top three teams will be publicly announced (along with teams ranked fourth through tenth). The panel of six prominent judges then selects a winner from the top three teams based on their nomination history, points earned and creativity.
4. Winner Announcement: On April 1, 2023, during CBC Sports Presents, the winning hill will be announced live on CBC TV and CBC Gem and will receive a $100,000 grand prize to improve the local skiing community.
Last year, 69 teams from across the country entered the Top Peak competition.
