We took our lumps early in the season and worked to get to this point

Coach, congratulations. Your team is headed to the regionals. Two nice wins for us today against Green Level, then against Kerry. Uh, you know, big second round matches. They are said to carry wrestling powers. What did you see from your guys out there to be able to make it in both rounds? Honestly we took some lumps early in the season, unhealthy. And so the guys kind of got together and twirled around to show who we are, who we are after we showed it. Uh, not great. We were earlier this year and then of course like you said they, you know, take a big team hat off to them. They wrestle very well. But I just think great performances from real young guys, guys that wrestle over their heads but only give themselves one chance, they all wrestle well, you all work. They worked insanely hard but they put it together tonight. So you mentioned the difficult beginning to build on. You don’t win the conference championship, of course, but you lose weight, you don’t beat yourself, you get past them. What do you think it is? That allows these kids to get better and play at a higher level throughout the year this year. Honestly, this is one of the tightest knitting teams I’ve ever been with. Um, these guys really care about each other. We have a lot of guys who are in their freshman year wrestling. So they’re dying to keep up and be a part of the team and show that it’s given our older boys so much energy to see people care so much at a young age and that this group really cares about each other. So if you heard our heavyweight is a sophomore, he’s like one of them, you know what I mean? So when these guys, who aren’t usually killers or whatever, get a chance to go out there, the majority of our team is behind these guys, and I think just pride and practicing with good partners. Yes, a lot of it is just the kids really looking after each other and going to the regionals. What would you like to see over the next few days to ensure they are resting and recovering and preparing for it? Well, really? I just want to see them, keep going, keep doing what they’re doing. I think that’s the biggest key and all of that and trying not to make it bigger than it’s still just wrestling matches and they wrestled matches all season you know so we have tough practiced.
