Where are they now: Reys N A Rocket

Next in the series is Rey’s NA Rocket (Matt Rocket) and everyone from Manitoba will recognize the name harness racing. The now 9-year-old mare was bred by Richard and Janet Rey of St. Claude, MB. Richard Rey was also her trainer and she was only ridden by Michel Rey during her short stint in her home province. She debuted in 2016 as a two-year-old and finished her rookie year by winning the MSSBA Kindergarten Stakes.

Things started to heat up for her in her three-year year, when she won five of her seven starts and never finished worse than second during the Manitoba show season. She not only won, but also the biggest races in Manitoba. She collected Lady Crocus, Manitoba Futurity, Silk Lace and Manitoba Great Western. She earned a jewel to her crown in four of the five major races in Manitoba and was disqualified from the last race as it is for colts and geldings only.

Before the end of 2017, she went to coach Richard Moreau and Rey’s NA Rocket’s winning streak continued after relocating to southern Ontario. She won her first race at Flamboro Downs in 1:54.2. Her next start was at Mohawk Raceway, and it was far from an ideal ending as she was at a bigger track for the first time. However, she bounced back on her next start at Western Fair Raceway with a win on a more comfortable half-mile course. It wasn’t long before she found success on the bigger circuit, winning at Woodbine Racetrack in March 2018.

For the next five years, she continued to race and hop around various courses, mostly in southern Ontario. Rey’s NA Rocket has also bounced around with a few different trainers throughout her racing career. After her time with Richard Moreau, she has spent time with Patrick Shepherd, Nick Gallucci, Robert Bernicky, Victor Pudd and Gerard Demers and is now back with Moreau. She’s still finding a way to get her work done and has had a hot start to 2023. In her first four starts, she’s only had one win but didn’t finish in the top three.

Her lifetime earnings total is currently 47 and she has earned $290,047. Rey’s NA Rocket has 192 career starts and she has the 1:52.2 lifetime mark that she achieved at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Her next start is scheduled for February 2nd at the ninth race at Woodbine Mohawk Park. She has the lucky inside post position and will have Louis-Philippe Roy on the bike.
