Robert “Bob” Grenier
BELGRADE — Robert “Bob” Grenier, 85, died peacefully at his lakefront home with his family by his side on December 20, 2022.
He was born on August 5, 1937 in Winslow, Maine to Romeo and Alice (Quirion) Grenier. He attended Winslow Schools and graduated in 1956. He was drafted into the Army from 1957 to 1959 and then spent two years in the Army Reserve. In 1959 he met his partner Muriel Reny and they married on August 1, 1964.
In 1963 he began his career as District Manager for the Central Maine Morning Sentinel and became Assistant Circulation Director in 1974. In 1982 he was appointed Circulation Manager and took great pride in growing the newspaper in close collaboration with General Manager and dear friend Bob Moorehead. In 1994, after 31 dedicated years of service, he retired from the Sentinel and took a position with Castine Energy Services as Safety Director where he traveled until 2008 making lasting memories with wonderful friends.
Bob was a very active member of St. John’s Parish and devoted many hours over the years teaching CCD classes as well as pre-cana classes with his wife. He was passionate about local politics and often campaigned and courted various friends. He had a great love of sports, particularly football, and was a devoted Patriot and Red Sox fan. He loved meeting his best friends for Friday lunch and discussing and arguing about sports, politics and current events. His lake house on Great Pond was his favorite place and many wonderful memories were made here like fishing for white bass, sunset cruises, lobster casseroles, happily ever after with his Perfect Manhattan’s and spending quality time with his family. He was very proud of his family and loved it most when everyone was there to sit on the deck with him and watch the sun go down. He loved telling jokes, singing songs and was the life of every party and gathering.
Robert is survived by his 58-year-old wife Muriel (Reny) Grenier from Belgrade; his two daughters Kelly Phinney and her husband Jay Phinney from North Berwick and Nicole Duchette and her husband Andre Duchette from Brunswick. Bob had five grandchildren, James Martin and his wife Jordan Martin, Robert Martin, Matthew Martin, Madelyn Duchette and Eleanor Duchette; a great-grandson, James “Jimmy” Martin V; his three siblings Lilian Vashon (Winslow), Jean Bolduc (Waterville) and David Grenier and wife Patricia (Winslow); and several nieces and nephews. Bob had the most wonderful friends and he considered them family. Closest friends include the ‘entire’ Jabar family, his superbowl/sailing buddies and lunch buddy John Kiernan.
A Christian funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on January 14, 2023 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church (Corpus Christi Parish) 26 Monument St., Winslow. The reception will follow immediately after Mass at Notre Dame Catholic Church Hall, 116 Silver St. Waterville.
The family would like to thank Maine General Hospice for the compassionate care they have provided along with all family and friends who have visited and showered with support during this time.
