After Shock LLC failed to obtain Hoover City Council approval on Jan. 17 to build a car wash at 3441 Morgan Road on a campus of the Publix Mall at the intersection of Morgan Road and South Shades Crest Road. Hoover City Council on January 17 granted David Hare permission to use Hare Farm at 613 Sanders Road and 2421 Savoy St. as a venue for events such as a Christmas market, market squares, seasonal pumpkin patch, weddings, corporate parties, and birthday celebrations. David and Teresa Hare bought nearly 9 acres of the former Smith Farm in Bluff Park in 2019. The property currently includes a house, barn, pond, extensive lawns and some trees. Hare said the barn will be an important part of the venue, but he also plans to build an open-air pavilion, a 20-by-40-foot meeting space and a walking trail on the site. Eventually, he might also want to build himself a new home on the property, and that’s one of the reasons he wanted the property converted from an R-1 single-family community to a planned community, he said. He may also want to add more homes on the property in the future, but if he did, he would have to seek approval from the city again, as the Jan. 17 council vote limited him to two homes on the property.
