Choosing the right school is an investment in your child’s future
St. John’s College has every reason to be proud this year; The achievements of the VCE students are a testament to their hard work and the dedication of their teachers, particularly in Modern Greek.
More than 50 percent of St. John’s students achieved a score above 45.
“Our focus in 2023 will be taking St. John’s College from good to great! We are building on the successes and achievements of the last three years and continue to learn and grow to achieve greater things in 2023,” said newly appointed Director Andrew Ponsford. Mr Ponsford is a highly experienced P-12 independent school principal with over 30 years experience in Melbourne’s leading high schools.
“At the beginning of my time as principal of the SJC, I was impressed by the friendliness and community spirit of the school; The warm and supportive way I was hugged was truly overwhelming,” added Mr Ponsford.
“It is indeed a tremendous privilege to join such a dedicated, motivated and supportive group of people who have a primary focus on the well-being and success of the students in their care… I look forward to working with the Board, the staff , the students, and the parents and carers to ensure this journey continues in the best possible way and that these practices are built to last and serve our students well beyond the final days of school.”

In particular, over the last three years, the curriculum and teaching and learning practices have been completely revised to maximize student engagement, with an updated vision and success for all and high standards of personal achievement. According to the school’s principal, a feature of the recent work that has taken place is individual programming, along with the best that technology can offer to support community access, connectivity and student learning needs.
St. John’s College Preston has welcomed another promising addition to its Greek curriculum.
Kristian Raspa will join the faculty as a leading teacher with a portfolio of community engagement and leader of Greek language and culture. Mr. Raspa, himself a graduate of St. John’s College Preston, is excited to return to his alma mater to share his passion for teaching with the next generation of students. With over a decade of experience in this field, Mr. Raspa brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to St. John’s.
In addition to his master’s degree in secondary education specializing in teaching languages, Mr. Raspa has a long history of community service and dedication. As the lead teacher in community involvement, Mr. Raspa will be responsible for the development and implementation of programs and initiatives aimed at strengthening our connections to the local community and encouraging our students’ civic involvement.
“We are thrilled to have Kristian join our team and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our students and the community,” added Mr. Ponsford.
