Rutgers lands 1st commit of pivotal 2024 class

Rutgers has received its first engagement in a potentially monstrous 2024 class.

Dellquan Warren, a four-star point guard at Keystone Academy in Pennsylvania, announced his pledge to the Scarlet Knights on Facebook Friday, before later confirming it to NJ Advance Media. The 6ft 1 pro is ranked 103rd nationally in his class in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Warren recently told 247Sports that Rutgers, who offered him a scholarship in March, recruits him the hardest of any school pursuing him. He has unofficially visited Piscataway along with Xavier, Ohio State and Cincinnati and has reported other offers from Alabama, Maryland, St. John’s and Dayton.

Warren was on campus this week with his Keystone Prep Academy team, who appeared on “The Battle in New Jersey,” a high school show that took place Thursday at Jersey Mike’s Arena. He took part in the Scarlet Knights’ win over Coppin State on Friday night.

“The process with Rutgers has been great,” he told 247Sports. “I kept in touch with the coaches every day and observed their way of playing. They rock their guards and that’s what I’m looking for in a college. I can go downhill at will, and I’m great at ball screen action, that would translate.

Rutgers now has two stipends left for the 2024-25 season, but by then there will almost certainly be more room. The Scarlet Knights are heavily pursuing other top-10 talent in the Class of 2024, including Don Bosco Prep star Dylan Harper — the younger brother of program great Ron Harper Jr. — and five-star Georgia forward Airious Bailey.

Here’s Rutger’s planned roster makeup for the 2024-25 season (indicated by remaining years of eligibility):

1 year – Cliff Omoruyi (C), Dean Reiber (F), Mawot Mag (F), Oskar Palmquist (F), Jalen Miller (G)

2 years – Derek Simpson (G), Antwone Woolfolk (F), Antonio Chol (F)

3 years – Gavin Griffiths (F), Jamichael Davis (G)

4 years – Dellquan Warren (G)

Note: Rosters are fluid in college basketball, now more than ever; early entry into the NBA draft and transfers are always possible. This will almost certainly not be the exact squad Rutgers will have in November 2024.
