Tyler Sherman leads Wildcats basketball to victory

Senior Tyler Sherman finished a three-game week for Greenwood with over 1,000 points in his scholastic career.

The Wildcats faced the Upper Dauphin for the first time earlier in their week, posting a 55-35 win.

Greenwood came out strong in the first quarter, surpassing UDA 18-6.

Upper Dauphin pushed back and had 13 points compared to Greenwood’s nine before halftime.

The Wildcat defense stayed strong in the third quarter, conceding just two points while the offense scored 17.

In the final quarter, Upper Dauphin once again surpassed Greenwood 14-11, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Greenwood’s long lead.

Sherman, Braden Sarver and Gage Wirth led the Wildcats to this win.

Sherman led with 21 points and accumulated eight two-point shots for the night and three and two free throws.

Sherman also dominated defense and had ten defensive rebounds with four offensive and four steals.

Sarver scored five-two points, one free throw and had two offensive rebounds with three defensive ones.

Wirth made three two-point shots, one three-point shot and two free throws while also providing four assists.

Ben Brinser also contributed to the Wildcat defense as he recorded three steals.

After that win, Greenwood moved on to face Saint Joseph’s.

The Wildcats followed a similar outcome to the UDA game, winning a 71-56 contest.

The Wildcats outperformed Saint Joseph’s in every quarter and started the night with 21 points in the opening minutes.

Sherman delivered in the opening quarter with one two-point shot, two three-point shots and three free throws.

Before halftime, Greenwood added another 13 points to his tally while Saint Joseph’s had 16 in the first quarter and 11 in the second.

Sarver took over in the second quarter with two two-point shots and a three-point shot.

With 18 points in the third and 19 points in the last quarter, the Wildcats continued the momentum into the second half.

Sarver benched two two-pointers and two three-pointers in the last quarter and Sherman had two two-pointer shots.

Sarver and Sherman again led Greenwood by 22 points each. Sam Myers also contributed to the offensive with 17 points.

The entire team went free throws that night at 11:15.

The Wildcats ended the week strong, facing Shalom Christian and securing their third win of the week with a 62-47 score.

Sherman had a big game with 33 points, and he surpassed 1,000 points in the second quarter.

Early in the game, Sherman made four twos while Myers, who had a total of 21 points that night, had three twos and two free throws.

Before halftime, Sherman fired four more two-point shots that put him over the milestone.

In the third quarter, Myers grabbed a three-point shot while Sherman secured two free throws.

Sherman had three more two-pointers and four free throws to end the game.

In the Tri-Valley League, Sherman leads in goals averaging 19.56 points per game.

Myers has 35 assists in the league, which puts him just below Halifax’s Waid Gainer. Sherman is second in steals with 22 while Isaiah Dyer of Millersburg leads with 24.

Sherman is also second with 83 total rebounds. Greenwood leads the West with a league record of 9-0 and an overall record of 15-1.
