Hartley, Beverly “Bev”
It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Bev Hartley (aka Queen of Dance) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday December 28th, 2022 at the age of 85. Beloved Wife of Robert Hartley. Loving mother of Margo Hartley. Proud grandmother of Brandon Smith (Elisa Snyder), Robert Smith and Alyssa Smith. Great grandmother of Perrin and Eli Smith. Predeceased by her brothers Ray and Jimmy Lenton. Survived by her sister-in-law Sharon Lenton and brother-in-law George Hartley. In loving memory of her nieces, nephews and their families.
Bev spent most of her life in Thunder Bay, where she was a secretary in the printing department at Lakehead University. Bev’s true passion was teaching people to love dance. She taught dance in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay and particularly enjoyed watching her daughter and granddaughter continue the tradition in Kitchener Waterloo. Bev spent her final years in the KW area being cared for by the amazing staff and nurses at Sunnyside Home. Bev was an amazing musician and could play many instruments but was best known for her accordion playing skills. Bev’s proudest moments were cheering on all the dancers at her daughter’s studio, Bojangles Dance Arts. Bev was affectionately nicknamed JLO in Sunnyside for her love of bling, sunglasses and lipstick. Energetic to the end and always saying “EVERYTHING IS GREAT”, she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Bev’s family will receive family and friends on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Kitchener (519) 749-8467. Memorial service in the chapel on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Those unable to attend can watch Bev’s service on Friday via the following live stream link:

After the service, all are invited to Bojangles Dance Arts, 645 Victoria St. North for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Donations can be made to KidsAbility or the SickKids Hospital Foundation in memory of Bev (cards are available at the funeral home).
