A range of Family Day activities have been announced by groups in Cornwall and SDG.

The Kinsmen Club of Cornwall are hosting a day of events at the Cornwall Civic Complex on February 20th. A complimentary pancake breakfast kicks off activities between 8am and 10:30am in Salon B, followed by complimentary public skating at Ed Lumley Arena from 10am to 12pm. Families are then invited to take a dip during a free family swim at the Cornwall Aquatic Center from 1pm to 2pm

The Friends of the Sanctuary have also announced a special program for the day at the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary near Ingleside, featuring a barbecue and a $20 promotional price for families with the regular rental services, which run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m

New manager

Emma Vanier has been promoted to Cornwall’s infrastructure manager, a post she took up this week.

Vanier has served as the municipal engineer for the city since 2018 after working for EFI Engineering. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Queen’s University, Kingston.

Some of the projects that the city said Vanier had managed in her position were transitioning the department to use AutoCAD Civil 3D software and directing the design work on the city’s linear infrastructure projects (pipes, roads, etc.) in the past several years. In addition to managing these projects, she will also be responsible for the city’s transport sector in her new role.

She will report to Michael Fawthrop, general manager of infrastructure and public works, who, prior to his promotion last year, held the responsibilities that Vanier is now taking on.

SUMMERSTOWN – Canada’s Border Protection Agency announced in January that it would no longer provide maritime reporting services at the government dock in Summerstown.

In a tweet, the CBSA said seafarers who need to report their arrival and entry into Canada can call Summerstown Marina. There is no reporting phone number listed for this marina, located at 19044 Highway 2.

Reasons for the change in operations were not given.

The Tri-County Literacy Council will turn green later this month.

It is offering a free three-week landscaping training program beginning February 20, with classes Monday through Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m The course is a great way to beat the winter blah by thinking about spring, but so much more. Participants learn about plants, soil preparation, garden design, and other topics.
