Wycombe Wanderers 2-3 Cambridge United
A wonderful strike from first-half substitute Jack Lankester put Cambridge on their way to a 3-2 League One win at Wycombe that ended a run of five straight league defeats.
Lankester came on for the injured Fejiri Okenabirhie after 25 minutes and did a great job of helping the U’s break the chairboys’ three-game winning streak.
Cambridge made up for poor form by taking the lead in the sixth minute when Joe Ironside put Harvey Knibbs behind and the striker fired well into the far corner.
Anis Mehmeti hit a post for Wycombe who began to dominate and they were level after 35 minutes when Sam Vokes headed in a corner from Lewis Wing.
Completely against the flow of play, the U’s regained the lead in first-half injury time when Lankester turned a stunning shot from outside the box into the top corner.
The visitors effectively sealed a much-needed result when Lloyd Jones was left alone to tap into Lewis Simper’s corner, although Wing scored a consolation for Wycombe with a deflected shot in injury time.
