Merrie “Lyn” Bernard

July 18, 1950 – January 17, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Lyn.

She was not only a mother, but also a grandmother, a dear sister to her 12 siblings and a special aunt and great-aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

At the time of her death, she was living in Lacombe, AB. Mom had moved there with her late husband, Rusty Bernard, from whom she passed in 2017. Mom and Rusty enjoyed spending summers on their seasonal property at Bashaw Golf Course and winters in Yuma, Arizona.

Before moving to Lacombe, Mom lived in Calgary with the love of her life, Art Kross. She enjoyed spending time with her friends camping in the backwoods mountains, her coffee dates with “Ma” (Art’s mother Marjorie), and bowling with the ladies.

Lyn was predeceased by her first husband, Leonard Margolis, in February 2021. Together they had three children together who must mourn their deaths. Teresa (urban); Kurt (Terri) and grandchildren Lexie and Kale; Kari-Lyn (Stuart) and grandchildren DeShawn and Tiyanna. During those years, Mom enjoyed her time at Anglin Lake, family outings, bowling at Melfort, being a member of the Kinistino Kinettes, curling, afternoon coffee at the Swen, Jr. Tiger hockey games, and attending dances and other social events with Dad and her friends.

During high school, Mom enjoyed playing ball and broomball, but school wasn’t her favorite pastime and she left to pursue a career as a hairdresser. In 1968 she started cosmetology school in Saskatoon and went to Winnipeg to finish school and have Teresa. No wonder she wanted to be a hairstylist as she always took pride in her looks.

A few other things mom enjoyed were doing her crosswords, watching her Calgary Flames, and while you can take the girl out of Saskatchewan, you can’t take Saskatchewan out of the girl to see her beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders play.

Rest high up on this mountain in the arms of art, we’re sure it’s 5 o’clock somewhere.

The funeral service will be on February 25, 2023 at 1:00 am at Kinistino Anglican Church

Burial at a later date in Calgary.
