Ga Dept of Labor: Regional Commissions See Dip in November Unemployment Rates



Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler recently said all regional commissions saw unemployment rates fall in November.

“We are seeing job numbers continue to rise across the state as Georgians secure employment,” Commissioner Butler said. “Unemployment rates also fell in all of our regional commissions in November as we entered holiday work hours.”

Employment increased in the Atlanta Regional Commission, Central Savannah River Regional Commission, Middle Georgia Regional Commission, and Northeast Georgia Regional Commission.

Below is a summary of each regional commission:

Atlanta Regional Commission – Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell by two-tenths to 2.7 percent compared to 3.0 percent a year ago.
  • The labor force decreased by 4,468 otm and increased by 161,032 otm to 2,648,972.
  • The number of employees rose by 1,026 otm and by 163,510 otm to 2,577,079.
  • Initial applications increased by 1,683 (21%) otm and by 2,241 (30%) oty to 9,824.
  • Original claims have been upgraded to otm in administrative and support services and information, and to oty in administrative and support services and in professional, scientific and technical services.
  • 66,217 jobs were advertised on Employ Georgia.

Central Savannah River Regional Commission – Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Hancock, Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Taliaferro, Warren, Washington and Wilkes counties.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell three-tenths to 3.5 percent from 3.4 percent a year ago.
  • The number of employed rose by 457 otm and fell by 1,030 otm to 207,586.
  • The number of employees rose by 989 otm and fell by 1,337 otm to 200,271.
  • Initial applications increased by 187 (21%) otm and by 266 (32%) oty to 1,096.
  • Initial receivables increased by oty in manufacturing and administrative and support services and in manufacturing and construction.

Coastal Georgia Regional Commission – Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh and Screven counties.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell three-tenths to 2.7 percent from 2.9 percent a year ago.
  • The labor force decreased by 2,373 otm and by 1,452 otm to 342,405.
  • The number of employees fell by 1,369 otm and 879 otm to 332,999.
  • Initial applications increased by 140 (15%) otm and by 210 (24%) oty to 1,093.
  • Initial claims increased otm in Administrative and Support Services and Manufacturing and oty in Manufacturing and Arts, Entertainment and Recreation.
  • 9,389 jobs were posted on Employ Georgia.

Regional Commission for the Georgia Mountains – Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union and White Counties.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell three-tenths to 2.4 percent from 2.2 percent a year ago.
  • The labor force decreased by 1,908 otm and by 130,006 otm to 237,213.
  • The number of employees fell by 1,114 otm and 127,569 otm to 231,552.
  • Initial applications increased by 259 (42%) otm and by 330 (61%) oty to 870.
  • Initial entitlements increased by otm in Manufacturing and Management and Support Services, and increased by oty in Manufacturing and Management and Support Services.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell by a tenth to 3.4 percent from 3.2 percent a year ago.

  • Initial applications increased by 252 (31%) otm and by 411 (62%) oty to 1,075.

Regional Commission for Central Georgia – Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jones, Monroe, Peach, Pulaski, Putnam, Twiggs and Wilkinson counties.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell three-tenths to 3.1 percent from 3.1 percent a year ago.
  • The labor force decreased by 30 otm and by 2,774 oty to 219,382.
  • The number of employees rose by 679 otm and fell by 2,798 otm to 212,553.
  • Initial applications fell by 163 (-14%) otm and increased by 54 (6%) oty to 975.
  • Initial claims fell in transportation and warehousing and manufacturing and rose in administrative and support services and construction.

Northeast Georgia Regional Commission – Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Jasper, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe and Walton counties.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell three-tenths to 2.5 percent from 2.5 percent a year ago.
  • The workforce decreased by 271 oty and increased by 5,411 oty to 327,950.
  • The number of employees increased by 604 otm and 5,198 otm to 319,645.
  • Initial applications increased by 152 (21%) otm and by 160 (22%) oty to 878.
  • Initial claims increased by otm in administrative and support services and construction and by oty in construction and administrative and support services.
  • 6,084 jobs were advertised on Employ Georgia.

Northwest Georgia Regional Commission – Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Fannin, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Pickens, Polk, Walker and Whitfield counties.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell four-tenths to 2.7 percent from 2.5 percent a year ago.
  • The labor force decreased by 2,083 otm and increased by 5 oty to 428,723.
  • The number of employees fell by 596 otm and 830 otm to 417,052.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell three-tenths to 3.8 percent from 3.8 percent a year ago.

  • The number of employees fell by 475 otm and 1,589 otm to 137,858.
  • Initial claims increased by 27 (4%) otm and decreased by 9 (-1%) oty to 756.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell three-tenths to 3.0 percent from 2.8 percent a year ago.

  • Initial applications increased by 218 (29%) otm and by 509 (108%) oty to 979.

Southwest Georgia Regional Commission – Baker, Calhoun, Colquitt, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole, Terrell, Thomas and Worth counties.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell three-tenths to 3.2 percent from 3.3 percent a year ago.
  • The workforce decreased by 1,195 otm and 640 otm to 146,661.
  • The number of employees fell by 836 otm and 569 otm to 141,903.
  • Initial claims increased by 39 (7%) otm and decreased by 51 (-8%) oty to 616.
  • Initial claims were up in wholesale and health and social care, while down in professional, scientific and technical services and retail.
  • 1,551 jobs were posted on Employ Georgia.

Three Rivers Regional Commission – The counties of Butts, Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Lamar, Meriwether, Pike, Spalding, Troup and Upson.

  • The preliminary unemployment rate in November fell by two-tenths to 2.7 percent from 2.8 percent a year ago.
  • The labor force decreased by 623 oty and increased by 2,833 oty to 258,289.
  • The number of employees fell by 63 oty and rose by 3,056 oty to 251,338.
  • Initial applications increased by 210 (19%) otm and by 562 (73%) oty to 1,334.
  • Initial receivables increased by otm in Trade and Manufacturing and by oty in Manufacturing and Management and Support Services.
  • 3,433 jobs were advertised on Employ Georgia.
